Ulanovas and Zalgiris Kaunas won the overtime thriller

November 15, 11:41

Zalgiris Kaunas can't be considered a fluke, or maybe not even an underdog anymore, after their second win of the season, this time against Unicaja Malaga.

It wasn’t easy but coach Sarunas Jasikevicius’ players despite playing with fire and let Unicaja come back in the last three minutes of the game got the 85-83 win.Everything was decided by a last-second buzzer beater made by Edgaras Ulanovas after an assist by Vasilije Micic. It was an amazing end to a real thriller. Ulanovas finished the game with 10 points and he was the hero of the night.

The comeback: Despite its woes, Unicaja demonstrated character. With less than three minutes of the clock and Zalgiris leading 70-59, Ray McCallum led an amazing comeback with a 13-2 run that sent the game to overtime. He led the charge with 19 points in total but this wasn’t enough.

The star: Kevin Pangos had his best game yet in the EuroLeague. He scored 21 points on the road and dished five assists. Considering that he also made three turnovers, he was not on top of his game as a creator but with Zalgiris needing a leader, he is emerging as the player who makes things happen.

Aaron White with 10 points and Arturas Milaknis with 13 were also key factors for Zalgiris. Jeff Brooks with 16 points tried his best for Unicaja.

The visitors had much better shooting percentages than Unicaja and despite making 22 turnovers, they prevailed thanks to their last shot. It’s obvious that the Spaniards without Nemanja Nedovic on the floor, who was out due to injury, simply can’t play their game and despite almost “stealing” the win, Zalgiris for most of the game was the better team.
